So I was remiss in posting a comment to Brunsli's posts about whether or not she should trim some of her locks because they are uneven. First let me say that I am not a beauty salon type of person. So my approach to this question probably comes from a different place. I would not think, "Should I get my locks trimmed?...." Instead, my thought process is more like this, "My locks are uneven..... Where are my scissors??" So, given that, my advice is as follows:
If your locks are uneven, then trim some. Just pull out your scissors, get in the mirror, pull one of the locks tight and cut! Make sure you account for the bounceback when cutting but go ahead and do it! If you cut one too short, that is okay. Correct on the next one.

Are you offering to give me a haircut?
I think it's a little more complcated for me, since my hair is sorta layered, and I have 600 locks. I can't just trim by doing a straight line across the bottom.
I understand, but just take them one at a time. Mine was layered too, just by virtue of how hair grows out.
I mean, one of the things that I have really taken from this hair experience is to not be limited by my hair. And I do not like spending unneccessary money on my hair. I am also just generally a "do it yourself" person.
If you have 600 locks then it is easier to hide a mistake you might make cutting one shorter than you intended, etc. Get M to help you for the ones in the back. Probably a few clips will make a significant difference.
I consider this less controversial/experimental than coloring your locks. Just my advice tho......
I have always cut my own locks too until they got too long. I started once my locks were very settled. I would go one by one and trim the ones that we obviously longer than the others. When they go too long for me to do my usual trim I grabbed my daughter and gave her the scissors and told her to cut. I did learn that it is better to cut SLs at an angle than straight across. This will cut down on the ends unraveling and the swelling of the ends as the buds re-form.
Hmmm... how did my conversation end up on your blog? LOL!
BF wants me to cut his hair, so maybe I'll ask him to cut mine. I don't mind going to a salon though, I mean, once every two years isn't all that often...
